At 2:39 a.m. July 14th, 2015, Andrew David Blumin passed away at the Detroit Receiving Hospital from cardiac arrest at 46 years old. Andrew was born in San Francisco, California on July 10th 1969, to David Blumin and Gail Wlodinger. He spent his early years in Mill Valley, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, California and 3 years in Lomé, Togo. He moved to Paris, France at 12 years of age and attended the American School of Paris and the American University of Paris as well as his sophomore year in Boulder, Colorado. He returned to the US in 1993 where he worked in Los Angeles, CA. He spent the following 22 years working in a variety of jobs and living between New York and California. Before his demise, he was working as a construction supervisor in Detroit, MI.
Andrew was preceded in death by his mother Gail Wlodinger, (1991) and his sister Cynara Blumin, (2005). Survivors are his sister Dana Blumin, his niece and nephew Saskia and Adrien Balny d'Avricourt of Paris, France, aunt and uncle, Leonard and Patti Blumin of Mill Valley, CA and his cousins Richard Shiffrin of East Haven, CT and Cheryl Wlodinger of Studio City, CA.
Andrew was extremely loved and appreciated by many. He kept in touch with an incredible number of friends over the decades and touched the lives of so many people. He was passionate, creative, determined, caring and brilliant. He was considered like a brother by many of his close friends. He was full of good advice, insight and perspective on a variety of matters be it business or personal. Andrew never gave up and his persistence was greatly admired. He had a keen intellect and empathy and was a kind soul with the best of intentions and always gave what he could for others. He possessed an abundance of knowledge and ideas. He was able to think well outside of the box on many issues, big and small and had limitless creativity. He was admired for this and how his intelligence complemented his one-of-a-kind character. Andrew put every ounce of energy in all of his pursuits. He was truly present in every conversation, text message, email and would go out of his way to be there for you, no matter the circumstances. Andrew brought out the best in everyone with his beautiful soul and natural kindness. He had a magnanimous philosophy and a lion heart. He was overflowing with life, charming and loyal. He filled people with hope and inspiration and always wanted to make the world a better place. His memory will certainly live on in the countless number of people he affected, and with the ideas he shared. He was a kind, gentle and humble soul who enriched the lives of so many.
A ceremony was held in East Haven, CT on July 26th with close friends and family and on November 14th Andrew was put to rest with his mother in the Montparnasse cemetery in Paris, France.
